Player traits
What traits (habits) are, how the analyst reveals them and how the personal coach raises their level.
A trait is a decision a player likes to make. It does not make him stronger overall, but it opens moves another player would not try.
What a trait is
A trait (habit) describes behaviour in certain situations. For example:
- "Plays one-twos" — looks for a quick exchange of passes;
- "Long shots" — shoots from outside the box more often;
- "Cuts inside" — a wide player drives from the flank into the middle;
- "Presses back" — helps win the ball back after losing it.
A trait does not suit every role: "Long shots" gives a defender little, while "Cuts inside" gives a winger a lot.
Unknown traits
Traits start out unknown — even for your own players. The game does not say how many a player has or whether he has any at all: "not revealed yet" and "none" look the same.
Important: a trait works on the pitch even before you know about it. Revealing it gives you knowledge, not strength — so you can put the player where his traits are useful.
Research by the analyst
- Hire an analyst in "Staff". Without one, traits stay unknown.
- On the player card ("Info" → "Trait research") press "Send the analyst". Before sending you see the price, the duration and the chance of success.
- When the research is over, you get the notification "Analyst revealed a trait" — or a message that nothing was found.
Research can fail. Whether part of the money comes back then depends on the analyst — it is written before you send him. Every failed attempt raises the chance of the next one — the number of previous attempts is shown on the card. You can research other clubs' players too: before a transfer or before a match against their club. More in "The analyst and trait research".
Trait level
Every revealed trait has a level from 1 to 3. The level strengthens the trait's effect, not how often the player uses it.
- The personal coach raises the level in "Training → Traits": the "Level up" button next to the trait. Each task takes several days; "Slots" shows how many tasks the coach runs at once.
- The coach can also suggest a new trait that fits the player's role ("Learn: …"). This is a long task; if you cancel it, the progress is lost.
- Without a personal coach, levels slowly fade — you get the notification "Trait fading without a coach". Level 1 is never taken away.
Roles on the card
The "Info" tab has a "Roles (FM-style)" block — the roles in which the player is most useful. For other clubs' players there may be a note above them that this is only a scout's estimate and there is little data yet.
